General summary
Assists in managing a University dining services unit.
Major duties
- Assists in managing quality food preparation, presentation, service and guest satisfaction. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and University policies and procedures.
- Utilizes the computerized system to order products, manage delivery, control inventory and establish production schedules. Establishes product schedules to ensure timely customer service with budgetary guidelines.
- Assists in monitoring departmental budget and reporting for labor, equipment and food. Submits reports on a timely basis.
- Assists the manager with payroll submission, payable vouchers, employment documents and the production of inventory reports.
- Collaborates with Residence Life to assist with programming.
- Assists with assessing needs and initiating maintenance or other appropriate actions to ensure the upkeep of facilities and equipment.
- Trains and supervises staff and student employees in compliance with a collective bargaining agreement and University policies and procedures.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor鈥檚 degree from an accredited institution, or an Associate鈥檚 degree in Culinary Arts/Hospitality Management from an accredited institution (or to be earned within six months of hire).
Required experience
- One year's relevant experience.
- Supervisory or lead experience in a large commercial dining operation.
Required other
- ServSafe certified or the ability to obtain within 90 days of date of hire.
- Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekends and holidays.

- Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
Physical requirements
Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
