General summary
Provides leadership direction and management of the University's budget office, technical preparation of the operating budget, and providing forecasting and modeling analyses. Oversees and manages budget ledger processes and systems.
Major duties
- Directs University-wide budget planning processes for all University funds. Provides transparent financial reporting and resources that support internal planning and decision-making.
- Oversees and manages budget ledger processes and systems. Manages the input and output control process for all budget transactions in the financial system and maintains the integrity and quality of budget information. Serves as functional lead for system upgrades and University point of contact for new systems interfaces.
- Manages and supervises direct reports responsible for monitoring and controlling of board-approved budgets to maintain budget integrity, processing budget transactions, personnel transactions, and overall management of positions campus-wide.
- Develops financial reports and budget analyses for colleges and departments University-wide. Responds to budget inquiries and implements policies to ensure budget integrity.
- Maintains timely and adequate web content to display quality budget data for internal and external use. Maintains strategic resource management information and reporting as well as the State of Michigan transparency reporting requirements.
- Prepares and submits financial reports in the preparation of the State of Michigan budget request and financial reporting requirements. Provides reports and analyses for collective bargaining processes.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Five years' relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Budget, institutional and fund management experience.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds. 
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
