General summary
Advises and supports students facing academic challenges to maximize their opportunities for success and prepare for graduation. Supports student Iinitiatives that aid with academic recovery and retention activities.
Major duties
- Advises and refers students for academic skills assistance, including tutoring, counseling and career guidance. Assists students in connecting with advocate peers, support services and targeted resources.
- Supports first year experience and academic recovery activities .
- Serves as a liaison with University colleges to support student success initiatives.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises student employees.
- May provide assistance to and run study sessions for students preparing for state credentialing tests
- May collaborate with graduate college, academic departments and primary and secondary (K-12) school personnel to support success initiatives for undergraduate and graduate students.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- One year's relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with individuals to help problem solve challenging situations.
- Experience mentoring and coaching individuals to identify support networks and resources.
- Liaison experience working across units.
Required other
- Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings and weekends.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
