General summary
Coordinates the planning and execution of high-quality events and facility rentals for Intercollegiate Athletics. Plans, coordinates, staffs, schedules, budgets, supervises, and directs all operational activities and personnel engaged in managing events throughout the athletic department
Major duties
- Manages and provides comprehensive day-to-day and gameday management of assigned athletics events.
- Plans and coordinates department personnel and outside vendors and services, setup and breakdown of facilities.
- Coordinates, officials and visiting teams, crowd control management, game management, establishing relationships and procedures with law enforcement, and other emergency personnel.
- Implements venue policies and procedures.
- Ensures excellent customer service. Organizes, directs, coordinates, hires, trains, evaluates and schedules workers for athletics events.
- Updates and maintains event profiles, manuals and information packets.
- Collaborates with others and takes an active role in all athletic department operations.
- Trains staff on service, safety and evacuation procedures.
- Evaluates and implements ideas and best practices for safety and security of all athletic facilities and events. Works diligently to promote a positive relationship with on campus and off campus groups.
- Adheres to all department policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, Mid-American and National Collegiate Hockey Conferences, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the state of Michigan.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years' relevant experience
- Supervisory or lead experience. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage time, space, equipment and functions. Must have the ability to work under the pressure. Proven attention to detail.
Required other
- Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings and weekends. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varied weather conditions.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
