General summary
Directs all gift accounting activities. Formulates and implements policies and procedures for maintaining documentation of private gifts and grants to University foundations and affiliates. Manages and advises on the recording and reporting of charitable gift activity.
Major duties
- Directs the processing and preparation of official documentation for all private gifts and grants to University foundations and affiliates. Manages all aspects of gift accounting for the University, including recording electronic transactions.
- Oversees and ensures that all accounting functions are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Updates and implements policies, accounting practices and controls.
- Serves as a liaison to various constituency groups. Communicates directly with internal partners and University leadership.
- Communicates with donors, internal partners, and others regarding gift transactions and the delivery of assets to the University foundations or affiliates.
- Serves as a resource regarding unique gift vehicles including, but not limited to, charitable remainder trusts, charitable gift annuities, and insurances.
- Ensures regulatory compliance with charitable gift accounting policies and reporting standards. Monitors and understands relevant federal regulations. Ensures adherence to established gift accounting and reporting policies and procedures.
- Assists with preparing the University foundation鈥檚 annual audited financial report.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Five years' relevant experience.
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Experience with accounting, finance, and auditing.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with budget management.
- Experience with complex databases.
- Experience with investments portfolio reporting.
Required other
- Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings, and weekends.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
