Consistent with a student centered research university and a College of Education and Human Development that promotes partnerships in the development and delivery of programs, the mission of the Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology is to develop competent, ethical and culturally sensitive counselor education and counseling psychology professionals through graduate education and scholarship. To accomplish this mission, the department offers doctoral training in counseling psychology and counselor education and master鈥檚 level training in counseling psychology, counselor education (college counseling; clinical mental health counseling; marriage, couples and family counseling; and school counseling), and rehabilitation counseling and rehabilitation counseling/teaching (specialization in blindness and low vision). We strive to recruit and retain students of diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds from local, state, national and international locations.

 

Fast facts

蜜桃社区 Michigan University's Ph.D. program in counseling psychology has been accredited by the American Psychological Association since the initial accreditation in 1993.

 
 

蜜桃社区's Ph.D. program in counselor education and supervision, M.A. in counselor education clinical mental health counseling; college counseling; marriage, couple and family counseling; school counseling; and rehabilitation counseling are CACREP Accredited.

 

 

Two on-site low-cost clinics, one in Kalamazoo and one in Grand Rapids, provide a variety of counseling services and serve as primary training facilities for master鈥檚 and doctoral level students.

 

 

蜜桃社区's Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology emphasizes the importance of addressing the needs of an increasingly diverse society and many faculty maintain active professional and research interests concerning various aspects of multicultural and diversity studies.
