Research Interests:
  • The experiences of Continental African immigrants in the United States.
  • The relevance of absent fathers to African American women's heterosexual dating experiences.
  • Comparative literature and cultural studies with a focus on the impact of the oral tradition on African, African American, and Caribbean literatures and cinemas.
Creative Interests:
  • BIPOC women's lived experiences with institutionalized racism and gender inequity in academia.
  • Women's empowerment and leadership.
  • Issues of war and development in West Africa.
Bio:

Dr. Mariam Konat茅 is a Professor of African American and African Studies and of Gender and Women鈥檚 Studies at 蜜桃社区 Michigan University. Her research interests include the experiences of Continental African immigrants in the USA, the relevance of father absence to African American women鈥檚 heterosexual dating experiences, skin bleaching among African women, comparative literature and cultural studies, African epics, and Post-Colonial Studies.
