2024 Summer Intensive Workshop

Instructors

 creates highly ornamented, figurative ceramic sculptures, often underlined by a connection to the sociopolitical issues the artist explores. Rodriguez holds a BFA from the University of Texas El Paso and an MFA in ceramics from the University of Washington, Seattle. His world curiosity grew as a recipient of a Bonderman Travel Fellowship, where he traveled the world through most of 2010. His work has shown at Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, Bainbridge Island, WA; Whatcom Museum, Bellingham, WA; Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, CA; Canton Art Museum, Canton, OH; amongst others. His sculptures are part of the collections of the National Museum of Mexican Art, Chicago, IL; the University of Washington's Paul G. Allen College of Computer Science and Engineering, Seattle, WA; the Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette University, Salem, OR; Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington D.C. and the National Museum in Stockholm, Sweden. George was featured on PBS Craft in America "Storytellers" episode and has created a large public sculpture for the new Kansas City Airport which opened in March 2023.

 is an American Ceramic Artist whose work takes apart the ceramic vessel and re-animates its constituent parts, incorporating vestiges of utilitarian ceramics which slip along saturations of colored glaze. In 2008, Alex received his Bachelor in Fine Arts from Finlandia University and has since then pursued two Post-Baccalaureate programs at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Colorado State University and a residency at the Anderson Ranch Art Center in Aspen Colorado. In 2017 he received his Master of Fine Arts from The New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. Alex currently works as the Visiting Assistant Professor of Ceramics and Sculpture at Alma College. His work has been shown both nationally and internationally at a wide range of galleries and art centers including; The Red Lodge Clay Center in Red Lodge MT, The Archie Bray Foundation in Helena MT, The CC Gallery in Taiwan and ALCOVA Design Week, Milan Italy, Mindy Solomon Gallery, Miami FL, Galerie Italienne Paris France. His work is currently hosted at Culture Object in New York City, The Galleria Luisa Delle Piane in Milan Italy, the M.F.A. Collection of Alfred’s Ceramic Arts Museum ACAM in Alfred, New York along with other private collections. 

Full Workshop: $650 (non-credit)

University Credit: 3 hours of undergraduate or graduate level credit is available for both MI residents and non-residents. Non-ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø students wishing to take the workshop for university credit are responsible for determining how ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø credits will transfer to their home university or college.

Day Pass: Great for students who would like to observe and chat with our visiting instructors but can't stay for the full workshop.  (No Materials included) 

  • 1-Day Pass: $65  (5/20 or 5/21)
  • 2-Day Pass: $110 (5/20 and 5/21)

Daily studio access: 8:00am – 10:00pm (24hr studio access for enrolled ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø students)
