Grand Rounds event focus on public health, ethics and COVID-19 vaccines
The global COVID pandemic and the ensuing vaccine development process leading to the national roll-out of COVID-19 vaccines has raised questions for health care providers and the public.
In response, the interdisciplinary health sciences Ph.D. program at 蜜桃社区 is hosting a free, virtual Grand Rounds event at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 9, with Dr. Kata Chillag who will discuss the public health approach to ethics and ethical decision making, using the COVID pandemic as a backdrop for the conversation.
Dr. Chillag is currently the Hamilton McKay Professor of Biosciences and Human Health and chair of the Department of Health and Human Values (Public Health) at Davidson College and was previously a senior policy analyst and associate director of the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues under President Barack Obama.

The session will be moderated by Dr. Rob Lyerla, professor in the interdisciplinary health sciences Ph.D. program in the College of Health and Human Services. The Interdisciplinary Health Sciences PhD Program offers periodic Grand Rounds with national thought leaders to discuss emerging healthcare issues and other current events through an interdisciplinary lens.
"Dr. Chillag was trained at the CDC in applied public health and epidemiology," says Dr. Lyerla. "She brings a unique set of training and experience to ethics that allows her to speak about ethics from a public health perspective."
