Scholarships
Scholarships from the Department of Statistics at ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø Michigan University acknowledge current outstanding statistics and data science students and augment awards made by ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø or the Lee Honors College. More specifically, to be considered for a scholarship, a student must be an undergraduate statistics or data science major or a graduate student enrolled in any of the accelerated, masters, or doctoral level statistics or data science programs. Students who receive a scholarship are expected to remain in their statistics or data science majors/programs throughout the duration of the award. Students who change their majors/programs to something other than what is stated above will have their scholarships rescinded.
Undergraduate Scholarships
The following is a list of undergraduate scholarships, which are typically awarded for fall and/or spring semesters of the subsequent academic year pending available funding. To be considered for a scholarship, please fill out the undergraduate scholarship application form by February 15.
Fred A. Beeler Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to outstanding freshmen and sophomore students majoring in statistics who have documented financial need. Funds for this scholarship were generously donated to the department by Isabel Beeler in 1994, in memory of her husband, Fred A. Beeler, who was a member of the mathematics faculty from 1946 to 1968.
Arthur E. and Martha S. Hearron Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to outstanding full-time students with junior, senior, or graduate status who are majoring in statistics. Funds for this scholarship were generously donated to the department by Arthur and Martha Hearron in 2003.
A. Bruce and Florence M. Clarke Statistics Scholarship
Presented to outstanding statistics majors in recognition of excellence in their field of study and their potential for future accomplishments. A. Bruce Clarke was a former chair of the Department of Mathematics as well as a former Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø Michigan University. He retired from the university in 1991.
JHP Statistics Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to outstanding students who are majoring in statistics.
Statistics Scholarship
This award, established in 2002, is awarded to outstanding undergraduate students.
Statistics – Data Science Scholarship
This award, established in 2018, is awarded to outstanding undergraduate students.
Graduate Scholarships
The following is a list of graduate scholarships, which are typically awarded for fall and/or spring semesters of the subsequent academic year pending available funding. To be considered for a scholarship, please fill out the graduate scholarship application form by February 15.
Arthur E. and Martha S. Hearron Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to outstanding full-time students with junior, senior, or graduate status who are majoring in statistics. Funds for this scholarship were generously donated to the department by Arthur and Martha Hearron in 2003.
Dr. Gerald L. Sievers Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to outstanding statistics graduate students. The scholarship is in honor of Dr. Gerald L. Sievers, professor emeritus of statistics at ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø Michigan University and co-founder of ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø’s statistics program.
Statistics Scholarship
This award, established in 2002, is awarded to outstanding graduate students.
