What is sports medicine?

Sports medicine evolved as a medical specialty from the need of athletes to quickly rehabilitate injuries and get back into action as soon as possible and at the same time returning to a high functional activity level. Today, we employ this treatment philosophy with all our patients鈥攚hether their goal is to run a 5K, go up a flight of stairs or to lift a child. We're here to help you heal better faster and return safely to your activities.

Do I have to be an athlete to be seen at the 蜜桃社区 Sports Medicine Clinic?

No. You do not have to be an athlete, nor does your injury or condition have to be sports-related to be seen. Services are open to 蜜桃社区 Michigan University students, faculty, staff and retirees as well as to individuals of the southwest Michigan community.

Does insurance cover physical therapy?

It depends on your insurance coverage. Call the customer service number on your insurance card to find out how you are covered. Sindecuse participates with many insurance companies.

Do I need a referral to see a 蜜桃社区 sports medicine physician?

No. You may set up an appointment to see one of our specialists without previously seeing another physician.

Do I need a prescription to come to physical therapy?

Evaluation: No. In Michigan, it is your right to have "direct access" to physical therapy. An initial assessment of physical therapy measures can be administered by a physical therapist without a prescription.

However, your health insurance may require you to be seen by a doctor prior to this evaluation and no treatments can be administered without a prescription. We recommend that all of our patients be seen by a primary care physician or one of our sports medicine specialists prior to the initial physical therapy visit to expedite the beginning of treatment.

Treatment by a physical therapist: Yes, you need a signed prescription from your physician. In Michigan that includes M.D., D.O., D.P.M., D.D.S. or P.A.-C.

Can I go to any physical therapy clinic?

Yes, by state law it is your choice as the patient as to where you receive treatment for physical therapy. We hope you'll choose to see us!

What do I need to wear?
